Moderate Sedation Program
Web-Based Curriculum
The web-based Moderate Sedation Course is designed to educate participants on the general guidelines surrounding the use of moderate sedation.
This course is suitable for all healthcare providers who administer, assess, and monitor patients receiving moderate sedation medications and can be taken
online, anytime, anywhere.
The course includes
- Pre-test to assess baseline knowledge
- Review of procedures likely to need moderate sedation
- Pre-procedure patient assessment
- Standard of care, including Nurse Practice Act
- Monitoring during moderate sedation: airway, cardiac, vital signs
- Types of and number of staff to be present
- Supplies needed while administering moderate sedation
- Medications typically used for moderate sedation and reversal agents
- Potential adverse events/outcomes (airway compromise, cardiac collapse, hypotension, allergic reaction, etc.)
- Recovery: assessment, monitoring, and expected time for recovery
- Patient teaching points: consent and expectations
- Documentation before, during and after procedures, and in event of adverse outcomes
- Post-test
