Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Program
"Establishing standardized protocols and education programs has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of VAP. MSC's VAP Program provides standardized guidance on how to modify practices to prevent, diagnose, and treat VAP in a risk-free, but realistic training environment."

Put a Cap on VAP
MSC's comprehensive program provides a general background on the cause, pathophysiology, progression and treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Guidance is provided regarding how practices can be modified to prevent and reduce the risk of this costly hospital-acquired infection.
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Program Video Overview
Clinical Applicability
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia is pneumonia that occurs more than 48 hours after the initiation of mechanical ventilation and carries a significant mortality risk. Recent national healthcare quality initiatives focusing on risk factors that contribute to VAP have drawn attention to the morbidity and mortality associated with this hospital-acquired condition.
Training Participants and Objectives
The goal of MSC's Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Program is to increase and reinforce the competence and confidence® of any healthcare team member associated with the care of hospital inpatients receiving mechanical ventilation, including new and advanced practice ICU nurses, residents, fellows and attending physicians. The objectives of this training program are:
- Increase knowledge of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, including antibiotic resistant organisms such as MRSA and Pseudomonas.
- Improve understanding of appropriate prevention measures
- Increase knowledge of recommended treatment and current ventilator-associated pneumonia IHI bundles
- Improve understanding of CDC recommended guidelines
