Sepsis Program
A study published in Critical Care Medicine (February, 2010) finds that hospitals that implement the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines realize sustained, continuous quality improvement in sepsis care and a reduction in reported sepsis-associated mortality rates. The SimSuite Sepsis Program focuses on the early identification and treatment of sepsis, based on the Surviving Sepsis Campaign 2008 guidelines.
Take the shock out of Sepsis
Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of sepsis are crucial to improving patient outcomes. The SimSuite Sepsis Program is the only simulation-based training solution that focuses on early identification, as well as implementation of therapies using realistic, hands-on education.
Training Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Differentiate between sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock.
- Interrelate the patient's presenting signs and symptoms to those consistent with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).
- Identify historical findings that are correlated with an increased risk for sepsis (index of suspicion).
- Recognize signs and symptoms of organ dysfunction.
- Name findings indicative of decreased tissue oxygenation.
- Apply early goal-directed initial fluid resuscitation recommendations according to the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines.
- Prioritize interventions used in the treatment of patients with severe sepsis/septic shock outlined in the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines.
- Apply rationale for septic shock treatments.

MSC Training Solution
MSC offers the Sepsis Program in the following formats, which may be completed on their own or as a comprehensive blended training program:
- Online course available in three formats:
- Sepsis: This course focuses on early identification and treatment of sepsis with emphasis on the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Resuscitation Bundle and Management Bundle. 3.0 CE (CE StatementThis continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.)
Activities that are approved by AORN are recognized as continuing education for registered nurses. This recognition does not imply that AORN or the ANCC Commission on Accreditation approves or endorses any product included in the presentation. - Sepsis Comprehensive: This course focuses on early recognition and treatment of sepsis with emphasis on the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Resuscitation Bundle and Management Bundle. This course also provides an in-depth overview of the pathophysiology of the evolution from systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) to septic shock and impact on tissue oxygenation and perfusion. 5.0 CE (CE StatementThis continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.)

The modules may be completed individually, or in combination, to meet specific healthcare organization learning objectives. The Sepsis Continuum Series features instruction on the four stages of sepsis. The Surviving Sepsis Series focuses on the treatment of sepsis and the prevention of the evolution of sepsis into septic shock.
