  • What is The Right Pathway to Practice®?
SimSuite education provides a more comprehensive training approach that better prepares healthcare providers for the challenges of daily practice. With a focus on cognitive learning, in addition to skills practice, the entire process of patient care is addressed, including:
    • Pre-procedure patient briefing.
    • Procedure performed on simulated patients, including the SimSuite Simantha® endovascular simulator, the Laerdal SimMan® human patient simulator, and others.
    • Post-procedure analysis and metric assessment.

SimSuite training represents a move away from the traditional model of "see one, do one, teach one" to a Reality without Risk® experience that enhances patient safety while providing a highly effective training experience.
  • Who are your customers?
    • Hospitals that want to focus on quality, training, and patient safety initiatives. MSC's comprehensive courseware encompasses endovascular procedures, critical care nursing, technologist training, and a highly efficient ACLS recertification program.
    • Medical manufacturers that partner with MSC to develop custom medical device simulation training programs which significantly accelerate market adoption and train physicians without using patients as the primary training material, thus positively impacting profitability.
    • Clinicians who author SimSuite courseware utilize the SimSuite for teaching purposes and training on new procedures without risk to the patient.
    • Medical societies that wish to conduct validation studies and credentialing.
  • What simulation education services does MSC offer?
MSC develops courseware and simulation tools designed to meet our customers' needs. Our clinical educators are procedural, product, and simulation experts who deliver standard and custom courseware. We maintain, upgrade, and provide IT services for our simulation systems. We can also coordinate the logistics of delivering the education and support the marketing efforts of the program. We first work with a customer to develop a customized needs analysis so that we can tailor our solutions to meet their needs.
  • What other fields use simulation technology?
The aviation industry has proven that simulation works. Simulation training is federally mandated for aviation and is becoming more widely available in medicine. Simulation technology was first introduced to medicine by the anesthesia community, who used simulation to increase patient safety so much that their liability premiums even decreased. Endovascular simulation is now being included in the training programs that medical device companies submit to the FDA for product approval.
  • Who is training on the SimSuite System?
Physicians, nurses, technologists, and healthcare teams train using the SimSuite courseware. In addition, medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies utilize the SimSuite to train their development and field teams.
  • How does SimSuite train clinicians?
MSC SimSuite Educators use a variety of tools to deliver engaging curriculum to healthcare clinicians. These tools include one-on-one instruction, web-based didactic curriculum, and simulation tools. MSC simulators are very realistic and easy to use. A typical SimSuite case takes about one hour and includes a patient's pre-procedure work-up, a simulated procedure, a post-procedure management plan, and built-in metric self-assessment.

The experience emphasizes the cognitive training experience in addition to the more typical skills and drills. SimSuite also provides hospital-centric online, self-paced courses as complementary educational aids to nursing and other allied health professionals. These courses can also be incorporated into orientation programs and quality improvement initiatives.
  • What procedures are simulated in a SimSuite Center?
SimSuite courseware includes cardiovascular, endovascular (carotid artery stenting, renal, and iliac interventions), critical care, basic and advanced disease management, and patient safety topics. In addition to the Simantha endovascular simulator, MSC also develops courses and case scenarios that address a wide range of nursing education needs for training on a human patient simulator. MSC nursing curriculum addresses unit-specific education needs as well as national patient safety and quality initiatives.

MSC also develops custom device manufacturer programs and medical society validation cases. For a complete curriculum list, visit our Courses section.
  • What types of training courses will be available in the future?
Courses are developed to meet a complete range of physician, nurse, and technologist needs. Simulations currently being constructed include cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures that deal with open chamber diagnostic and interventional procedures. There are a number of broad-skill courses that will address training challenges in the critical care and interventional suites. Enhancements to existing courseware that are currently in development include more advanced adverse event management.

MSC is developing training programs that address national patient safety and quality initiative issues. The SimSuite Sepsis, Moderate Sedation, Central Line Management, and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Programs are currently available. Quality Initiative Programs that address Stroke, Venous Thromboembolism (DVT and PE) Prevention and Treatment, Door-to-Balloon Time, and Heart Failure are in development.
  • Does the SimSuite provide metrics?
SimSuite systems collect over 800 standardized data points and track numerous customized metrics in real time — these can be combined for competency testing and proficiency assessment. Multiple studies have shown that SimSuite Systems discriminate competencies of experienced and inexperienced operators.
  • Are SimSuite Center participants "graded"?
Participants receive a confidential metric self-assessment as the final part of training. Metrics are based on medical society guidelines and show performance based on leading physician input. Metrics accumulated during the procedure are designed specifically for each simulated case to drive the teaching points and cognitive aspects of procedural simulation as associated with each disease state.
  • What differentiates the SimSuite from other simulation systems?
The SimSuite is more than a box. The SimSuite represents a bundle of services that are empowered by simulation. Most other simulation companies provide good simulation tools that teach the skills and drills of a procedure but require the customer to run the system, troubleshoot information systems, maintain hardware, develop courseware, and integrate simulation into clinical curricula. MSC believes that healthcare providers are the patient care and procedural experts and MSC is the complete simulation education expert. Therefore, we take responsibility for each of the services described above.
  • How much does the SimSuite cost?
Costs for MSC products and services vary based on the specific needs of each customer. MSC will customize a package consisting of service, technology and curriculum to support the customer's objectives. MSC courses may be taken online for as little as $50 per course. MSC can deliver educational courses to a facility for special events or on a more regular basis (e.g., monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, etc.). In addition, MSC is capable of providing all of the products and services associated with a full simulation center. Several packages are available based on an annual licensing fee. • Do you do mission rehearsal? If not, why?
The MSC SimSuite courses provide participants with a variety of patient scenarios including various anatomies and problems, ranging from basic to complex to extremely rare. MSC has the capability of integrating other patient scenarios to focus on particular teaching points. MSC's goal is to provide each participant with a solid foundation for clinical practice.

In an open forum, FDA officials have indicated that a simulator used for mission rehearsal could be interpreted as a diagnostic tool which would classify it as medical device. This would ultimately require significant time and financial investment for FDA submission and acceptance. Thus far, and considering the broad array of SimSuite courses available, MSC market research has indicated that the market value of this limited application does not outweigh the investment. We will continue to monitor this situation and adjust our approach as the market demand and regulatory environment shift.
  • Can I get a simulator without an educator?
The MSC Clinical Educator is the core element of the SimSuite System that brings the curriculum and simulated patients to life. They work to ensure your SimSuite System is utilized effectively and efficiently. They provide quality medical training, help to market it, and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure maximal uptime. If your institution holds specific policies regarding the employment of non-affiliates, MSC will work within those guidelines.
  • Do you do credentialing? How does that work?
MSC is proud to partner with the American Board of Internal Medicine as part of its Maintenance of Certification program for interventional cardiologists. This is the first time the ABIM is incorporating medical simulation technology into its programs to evaluate physician competence. Completion of Interventional Cardiology Simulations will provide physicians with 20 points toward completion of the Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge requirement for Maintenance of Certification. It is currently offered at MSC's SimSuite Centers and several professional conferences.

MSC can provide certificates of completion for courses to help healthcare professionals and managers track progress through a topic area or curriculum.
  • Can I get "CEU"?
MSC provides Continuing Education Units (CEU) for several courses. You can see a full list of cases that include CEU on the MSC website.
