“Partnering with MSC to reduce death from sepsis has prepared my organization with the knowledge, capability and focus to drive process change and monitor outcomes of care through a multitude of lenses. The program outcome has generated a 58% reduction in mortality in 10 months.” - Mary R. Lopez, RN, MSN - former Administrative Director, Patient Care Services, Dameron Hospital

WHAT WE DO

MSC partners with hospitals on an at-risk basis to resolve their most costly and complex problems, like sepsis where we have: reduced mortality by up to 72%, reduced cost by up to 31%, and shortened ALOS up to 3 days. Unlike many companies, MSC is the “last mile” solution, providing hands-on simulation training by Certified TeamSTEPPS Healthcare Simulation Educators. Using analytics, MSC continuously verifies staff competency and clinical outcomes - delivering results, and improving them.

REDUCE MORTALITY
Reduce mortality by up to 72%
REDUCE COSTS
Save a typical, 225-bed hospital $2 Million per year
REDUCE ALOS
Shorten the Average Length of Stay by up to 3 days

WHY IT MATTERS

Every year, sepsis kills over 266,000 patients in the United States. Half of these deaths are preventable. Sepsis is the top cause of hospital mortality, resulting in more deaths than automobile accidents, AIDS, prostate cancer, and breast cancer combined. MSC's Sepsis Quality Solution results in improved patient outcomes, lower costs and sustainable change, with the average hospital saving over $1 million annually. When integrated with our proprietary learning simulation program, our approach drives process improvement, clinical knowledge, organizational alignment, and compliance.

OUR APPROACH

Our proven process includes hands-on clinical training based on the most advanced evidence-based protocols. We employ Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators, the TeamSTEPPS philosophy, and high-fidelity patient simulators tuned to increased savings, reduced ALOS, and reduced mortality.
We deliver results that last: superior knowledge retention, highly proficient teamwork, and closed-loop communication. This healthcare revolution radically improves clinical and financial outcomes when combined with performance improvement.

ACHIEVE CLINICAL & FINANCIAL OUTCOMES

3-day reduction in average length of stay.
200% increase in compliance with care bundles, as defined by Surviving Sepsis Campaign.
Up to 72% reduction in patient mortality.
10-31% reduction in average cost per case.
Cash savings are often greater than $1 million for a 160-bed hospital.
ICU admissions reduced from 10.7% to 4.8%.
MSC utilizes a database from the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) to evaluate compliance with the standard three-hour and six-hour sepsis bundles. MSC can evaluate compliance with hospital-specific protocol upon request as well.

PROCESS, ORGANIZATIONAL & CULTURAL OUTCOMES

Creation and implementation of a sepsis screening tool in the ED, leading to statistically significant improvements in compliance following implementation.
Assuring compliance with all elements of the three-hour sepsis resuscitation bundle, from 25% to 75% (200% improvement).
Increased physician alignment through peer review resources and development of an intensivist program to align quality, practice and clinical outcomes.

Integrated Sepsis Management Solution

A unified sepsis program is crucial for success. Sepsis at most Health Systems trails trauma in term of standardization of practice across care settings. Variation in how we care for the septic patient can have a very profound effect on patient outcomes and the costs of providing care. - Martin Lucenti, MD, PhD

EDWARDS CRITICAL CARE TOOLKIT

Medical Simulation Corporation (MSC) and Edwards Lifesciences have partnered to provide clinically sound hemodynamic monitoring simulations which incorporate the Laerdal SimMan® and SimMan® 3G software with Edwards range of hemodynamic monitoring solutions. The toolkit provides scenarios which challenge clinicians to hemodynamically optimize the patient. Turn your hemodynamic critical care monitoring education into a safe, interactive experience.
