Door-to-Balloon Time

Beat the Clock

Hospital "door-to-balloon" times often exceed the guideline set by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). MSC's SimSuite Door-to-Balloon Program focuses on the educational needs of staff to competently care for STEMI patients and provides guidance on processes to decrease the time between patient arrival to the hospital and balloon inflation. The program is based on ACC Performance Measure guidelines as well as the Joint Commission's Core Measure Set.

Training Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Define the purpose of door-to-balloon time.
  • Describe the pathophysiology associated with cardiovascular disease.
  • Select the criteria used to aid in diagnosing ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI).
  • Identify the indicators of ST elevation MI on a 12-lead ECG.
  • Utilize a 12-lead ECG tracing to localize the area of the MI and potentially affected coronary artery.
  • Identify performance measures pertaining to STEMI.
